Oh Boland is the scum pop song writing of Tuam native Niall Murphy. An assortment of agrarian tragedies sewn to bored pop melodies, Flying Nun jangle, corrugated guitar squalls and 70’s power pop veering like the all-time classic hits Irish rock n roll waster.
Starting in 2012, the original line-up released two EPs and a split LP through Dublin Indie collective Popical Island before the 2016 release of their debut album Spilt Milk on Volar Records (San Diego, CA, USA) which was included in Pitchfork’s Top 20 Garage Punk albums of 2016.
Two US tours followed in 2016 and 2018 featuring two appearances at legendary punk label Goner Records’ festival Gonerfest in Memphis TN and in 2017 a tour of the UK supporting Detroit post punks Protomartyr.
Now relocated to Dublin with a new lineup, 2019 will see the release of sophomore LP Cheap Things and more shows and touring both locally and abroad.
Catching them live is wholly recommended, the musical joins visible in the best early-Pavement way. It’s the kind of thoughtful-yet-careless thrash that makes people put pints down and crane their necks to see what the hell is going on. In a city near you soon, presumably.
